Today I wrote this as I reflected to September 1996. The story is written by me, a 75-year-old woman. However, the video reflections are of a little girl and her poppa. I was always daddy’s little girl. February 14, 2025, is a day of reflection. My conclusion is now and always was, “My Poppa was my dearest and most caring Valentine a girl could wish for. Happy Valentine’s Day!
A RED ROSE
For all who love,
To hold to your heart,
Avoiding thorns that start
You bleed,
From the rose seed.
We are born,
Without scorn,
From a woman’s wound
To spin into a rose,
Spreading petals,
Across the landscape
Of time and space.
I see your face.
I see your smile.
All the while
My dear child
I loved you then,
I love you now.
Look at the stars.
Look at the moon.
Look at the headlights,
On the cars,
Reflecting the moon so bright
You have gone so far away.
So, today
I will tell you, my late Poppa Vic
You are still my favorite Valentine,
From little Vic.
Happy Valentines Day!
Jam with me Poppa,
As we hear a new song
To play along,
But this time Poppa
I made a rhyme through time
With my music to play on,
Jammin with your buddies
Chill poppa!
I can still feel your last breath
As I held your hand that night
As you lay there in ICU.
I see you poppa.
We are holding hands
As you draw your last breath,
“Be a good girl, sister. I love you. Take care of my grands.”
Then I whispered to you as I grasp your hand, squeezing it so tightly,
Poppa, Dad, I love you so much. Yes, I will for my hero!”
Today is Valentine’s Day,
And I say,
To every one of you
Do not be blue,
Hug your brother,
Hug your sister.
To you, my dear poppa
I will always love you!
You take care now, big Vic!
